Change is Cool...

Mississippi mayor brings 'atomic bomb of change'

This week, the 53-year-old James Young was elected the mayor of Philadelphia, Mississippi, a town of about 8,000 in the east-central part of the state. Despite a 55 percent white majority, Young defeated Rayburn Waddell, a white, three-term incumbent, by the slim margin of 46 votes.

Philadelphia was the site of one of the most notorious killings of the civil rights era. On June 21, 1964, three civil rights workers -- James Chaney, a 21-year-old black man from Mississippi; Andrew Goodman, 20, and Michael Schwerner, 24, both activists from New York -- were shot to death at the edge of town. The killings inspired the 1988 movie "Mississippi Burning."

He takes special pride that his victory comes the same year the nation swore in its first African-American president in Barack Obama. "It inspired people," Young said. "There are times and seasons, I think, for everything. The season arrived and the people let me know it was my time. It's an awesome feeling to have that kind of respect that people support you in this way," Young said near the end of our interview. "I'll never let the people down which called for that." MOST AMAZING CHOREOGRAPHED DANCING WE'VE EVER SEEN. FROM THE 1941 MOVIE HELLZAPOPPIN' FEATURING THE TIMLESS LINDY HOP DANCERS.

Saw this extra dope special on the life and times of legendary dancer, instructor and choreographer Frankie Manning. Manning is widely considered to be one of the founding fathers of Lindy Hop, an African American dance that evolved in the 1920's and 30's in New York City.
Manning's dancing career spanned over EIGHT decades and performed everywhere from Hollywood to the Moulin Rouge. He celebrated his 80th birthday by dancing with 80 women and his 85th by dancing with 85 women....way cool!
He spent his later years touring the world dancing with his son, and was planning his 95th birthday gala May 26, 2009, but never saw its fluition passing away on April 27, 2009.

WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH THE ***OVERDOSE!!!*** OF LADYBOY B*TCH@$$NESS IN 2009? C'MON FELLAS SERIOUSLY...TURN YOUR COOL UP, YOUR MAKIN' US LOOK BAD WTF???

Amy is definitely COOL wit us!
This posting is inspired by the countless convos we've had with our lady friends, about life, love and relationships at the crib and we've discovered that there is a new constant among these conversations.....2009 is the year of B*TCH@$$NESS in Men! Now normally we are the first to defend our species, but enough is enough...its time we start airing these lady boys out and seperating them from the rest of us. But before we start...Ladies, I hold you partly responsible simply because you've ignored the golden rule "BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR". For years you've wanted men to be more sensitive and more in touch with their feelings/sensitive side and now they are more sensitive than you are...CONGRATULATIONS! (we digress)
Now back to our regular scheduled program....
We could go on for hours on end about this up and coming generation of lady boys, but instead we will give you SUCKA MC's a few simple guidelines to help you turn your cool up, and turn the excess estrogen in your bloodstream down.
1) CHILL THE F* OUT...your woman should never have to tell you to relax, or to stop acting like a girl. Thats your job!
2) Your should not own a piece of clothing that your girl would even consider an option when she's getting dressed to leave the house. For example...
--SKINNY JEANS (enough is enough already)
--Gucci/Louis V fanny packs (wtf?, thats what pockets are for, wear loose enough jeans so you can actually utilize the pockets)
--Accessories (a watch, a chain, a cool ring or bracelet maybe nuff said...all these gawdy beads, and really colorful $h*t needs to be toned down a bit especially if your over 21.
3) If you like women...then act like it. Not saying you have to holla at girl you see, but lets be honest, girls come to the club fly as hell for a reason, so give them what they came for. It's cool to kick it with your boys at the bar, but grab up one of these dames and hit the dance floor wtf???
4) No dancing to any, we repeat, ANY of the numerous ladies anthems (i.e. Single Ladies or Dutty Wine)....especially not by yourself. Good Grief!!!
5) Lastly, YOUR A MAN GOT DAMMIT, so be one. Lets get back to the basics, open doors especially when a women is dressed up, even if you know shes got the bill grab it anyway, dont take longer than her to get ready, dont wear foundation or get your eyebrows done, and most importantly...if your fortunate enough to take a chick home wit you, do everything in your power to PUT HER TO SLEEP...she deserves it ;-) lol
Regards.

60 Days is Way Cooler than 366...

According to HiphopDX, Clifford "T.I." Harris will serve only a 2 month bid out the 366 days in prison he was sentenced to for multiple weapon charges. "The reduced sentence was due to a special deal which called for T.I. to remain on home confinement and complete a series of community service programs, including an MTV series."

Dania Ramirez (aka Maya from NBC's Heroes) has become one of our favorite faces in Holly wood. Born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (no wonder shes so bad! lol) this former superstar volleyball athlete was discovered by a modeling scout while working in a New York City convenience store and was cast in a soda commercial at the age of 15. She is also featured in Jay Z’s 1998 video “Streets is Watching.” Ramirez made her acting debut in the HBO film “Subway Stories.” There, she met Spike Lee, who later cast her in 2004’s “She Hate Me.” She played the love interest in “Fat Albert” that same year. Most recently, she made a splash on the small screen with her role as "Blanca Selgado" on the hit HBO series "The Sopranos" and “Maya Herrera” on “Heroes.” Her track record aside shes handsdown gorgeous, the type girl you fall asleep next to after a one-night stand, then wake up and make breakfast for cause she's till fine as hell when she first wakes up in the morning. lol

The King of Cool...

Dean Martin (born Dino Paul Crocetti) aka "The King of Cool" has dun dun it all and his track record speaks for itself (click here). Like the Diddy of the 40's thru 60's Dean naturally created classics with the help of other musicians, artist and songwriters Lol. The song "You're Nobody..." was actually written by a dude named Russ Morgan. We also couldnt help but notice how closely this song resembles the hook on B.I.G.'s "You're Nobody til Somebody Kills You" (Can anyone say "take dat, take dat") I digress. Anywho, this song is dope because it sums up life and love with just a few sentences. It just reminds us of how simple life could be if we all just chilled the F out and focused on the bigger picture. Since most people suck at listening, ((FACT: Humans generally listen at 25% comprehension rate)) you can also peep the lyrics below. Enjoy :-)

You're nobody till somebody loves you
You're nobody till somebody cares
You may be king
You may posses the world and its gold
But gold wont bring you happiness when you're growing old
The world is the same
You'll never change it, as sure as the sun shines above you
You're nobody till somebody loves you
So find yourself somebody to love
You're nobody till somebody loves you
You're nobody till somebody cares
You may be king
You may posses the world and its gold
But gold wont bring you happiness when you're growing old
The world is the same
You'll never change, as sure as the sun shines above you
You're nobody till somebody loves you
So find yourself somebody
You don't need just anybody
Find yourself somebody to love

Something for the Ladies!!!

A personal favorite of ours, Alexander McQueen is known for both the emotional power and raw energy of the shows as well as the romantic but determinedly contemporary nature of the collections. Integral to the McQueen culture is the juxtaposition between contrasting elements: fragility and strength, tradition and modernity and fluidity and severity. An openly emotional and even passionate viewpoint is realised with a profound respect and influence for the arts and crafts tradition. Alexander's collections combine an in-depth working knowledge of: bespoke British tailoring, the fine workmanship of the French Haute Couture atelier and the impeccable finish of Italian manufacturing. Hope you guys are enjoying this year's NBA playoffs as much as the Modern Day Hipsters are. Ahhhhhh the return of good basketball!

An uncool day in history...

This day twenty eight years ago, May 11, 1981, One of the greatest minds and voices in the history of Earth died of cancer at the age of 36. Bob Marley, with his music, sought out to change the world and bring peace. Even though he is gone, his memory lives on through all of us who love, listen, and understand his music. Rest in peace brother and may your words continue to bring peace to the heart of social unrest. -RS Entertainment

"Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
None but ourselves can free our minds.
Have no fear for atomic energy,
'Cause none of them can stop the time.
How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look? Ooh!
Some say it's just a part of it:
We've got to fulfill the book.

Won't you help to sing
These songs of freedom? -
'Cause all I ever have:
Redemption songs;"

Converse and UNDFTD had much success with the black colorway of their Poor Man’s Weapon collabo, and they’re back at it with an olive green colorway. The shoe gains it’s inspiration from those old bomber jackets that pilots wore, which is pretty interesting. UNDFTD’s logo is placed on the midsole, and these shoes also feature a removable Converse logo on the side. Get ready to pick these up on Armed Forces Day, which is May 16th, exclusively at UNDFTD for 92 bucks.

***Something for the ladies***

we are back with something new for you ladies. so, do you like these shoes too? believe it or not, these shoes were designed for Steve Madden by the Olsen twins Mary Kate and Ashley! After doing a line of jewelery with Robert Lee Morris, the twins are now teaming up with Steve Madden on" Elizabeth and James" shoes, which is the name of the line. Pretty hot right? The collection is set to retail from $200.00 to $500.00 which is quite high considering the fact that Steve Madden shoes usually range from $65.00- $250.00. Such is life. This collection is supposed to compliment their hip and funky line. They were set to hit the store earlier this year in March. so keep an eye on them. just another fashion heads up from RS...you know we do entertainment, fashion included! lol

The Smart Pill

The name of smart pill now refers to any pill that can deliver or control its delivery of medicine without the patient having to take action beyond the initial swallow. Jerome Schentag, professor of pharmaceutic science at the University of Buffalo, invented the computer-controlled "smart pill," which can be electronically tracked and instructed to deliver a drug to a predetermined location in the gastrointestinal tract. David D'Andrea was the co-inventor.

UB reporter Ellen Goldbaum describes the smart pill as a combination of microminiature electronics, mechanical and software engineering, and pharmaceutical sciences. "This capsule represents a significant advance in medical technology," said D'Andrea to UB reporters, "With the Smart Pill, we have been able to miniaturize a complex electronic system and put it into a capsule about one inch long. You're not just taking a pill, you're swallowing the instrument

A Cool Day In History...

A structural worker bolts beams on the framework during the construction of the Empire State Building in New York City. The 1,250-foot (380 m) building opened on May 1, 1931, at the time the tallest building in the world, overtaking the Chrysler Building (seen to the right), which had just been completed the year before. The addition of a pinnacle and antennas later increased its overall height to 1,472 feet (449 m).

True to the Game
(A compilation album created by some of our favorite music artist to
raise money/awareness for the Negro League Baseball Museum in Kansas City)

The idea began three years ago as a longshot dream in the head of Negro Leagues Museum marketing director Bob Kendrick. He knew someone who knew someone who knew someone, and eventually Stadium Entertainment came aboard and began tapping artists from all over the industry -- Talib Kweli, Ludacris, Chingy, Big Boi, Macy Gray and Kanye West, to name some of the luminaries -- to contribute at no cost to the museum songs that haven't appeared anywhere else, save one. (The exception is "Beam Me Up," by Tay Dizm, featuring T-Pain and Rick Ross, which came out last year as a single for T-Pain's label Nappy Boy Digital.) A portion of the proceeds from sales of True will benefit the museum. For more click (here)

Rapper GLC w/ Bob Kendrick

The first artists to join the salute were Kanye West and fellow Chicago rapper GLC, the latest signee to West's label, G.O.O.D. Records. The two contribute "The Big Screen," a signature-Kanye drum knocker that's about a young woman going to Hollywood to become a star (aren't we all).
